We have finished one of the fastest rounds of trapping yet. Things are starting to really slow down. Cool nights and cloudy days do not warm water make. Yet we must not lose hope in these cold days, for we shall prevail!
The number of turtles we’ve caught this semester has essentially doubled, with two trap checks left. Relatively good way to end the semester. Frog call monitoring might not give us much more data in the time we have left, but we’ll try it anyway. At the end of the day we might be tired, wet, cold, bleeding, and covered in [...]
Set the third round of traps today, tried seining. Not so successful on that last part. Weather has been against us all semester, hopefully this time around we can make up for all the cold snaps. We finished the day covered in pond scum and mud, we must have done something productive.
We placed our turtle traps in Freed-Hardeman’s remaining two ponds. Should be catching a fair number of turtles very soon. Was sort a baptism by fire for our new guys. Roughest day we’ve had on this project in a while.
