This week completes the second week of my water sampling and bacteria identification for Sugar Creek and the wetland. So far the data coorelates with the results from last year's study for the same area. I'm getting more used to the different techniques involved in the project, but I'm still not very good at counting the bacteria on each plate. I'm going to begin sampling each week on Tuesdays so I will have more time and I won't have to work over the weekends.

Our work with water quality is going pretty well. We have added the pond across the bypass to our repertoire, so we now have more data opportunities. Our findings have been rather varied between the ponds and have fluctuated with the changing of the seasons. Overall, it is turning out to be an interesting semester.

For some odd reason, my "write" tab will not show its lovely face. I have therefore decided simply to comment on older posts until it decides to rejoin the living, sort of.

If the turtle trapping does come to an end this season. We still have work to do. We have critters to skin and plans to scheme for the next season.

We are in the process of running the second round of samples. We are trying to separate 3 of the samples because we think we may have some possible coliforms. Again we had no growth on of streptococcus. The fecal bacteria plates grew better this time and we are hoping to determine the types of bacteria next week.

The third pond adventures are definatley more exciting than the rest. Since the day of snapping turtles things have began to slow down somewhat. I am surprised though that just in this first few weeks of trapping we have broken two size records of previous specimens with our turtle data.

Last week we started the first round of testing. We had a little trouble with the plates, but I think we've got it worked out for next week. The sampling worked well. We had multiple types of bacteria, however, not as many fecal coliforms as we had expected.
